Mini Idli and Breakfast Sambar

Mini idli is miniature version of idli dunked in sambar and served hot with a tsp of ghee on top. Kids will love it. My son is a huge fan and I make it often for him.

Ingredients:

For Mini Idly:

  • Idli Batter
  • Mini idli molds or plates
  • Oil for greasing the plate

For Sambar:

  • Carrot –  1 ( very small in size)
  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1
  • Potato – 1 ( small in size)
  • Beans – 3 Nos
  • Green chili – 1
  • Curry leaves – 8 leaves
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tbs
  • Sambar powder – 1 tbs
  • oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Dried chili – 1
  • Asafoetida – 1 pinch
  • Toor dal – 1 tbsp
  • Moong dal – 1 tbsp

 Method of Preparation:

  1. Wash and cut the vegetables into small pieces.
  2. Wash the toor dal and moong dal and add  with vegetables and sambar powder  to cook them in the cooker for 3 whistling.
  3. Switch off the cooker.
  4. When the pressure goes down, remove the lid and mash the cooked items.
  5. Add salt and allow to boiled it for 5 to 8 minutes in low heat.
  6. Switch off the stove.
  7. Heat oil a pan and add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
  8. Add dried chili followed by fenugreek seeds.
  9. After spluttering of fenugreek seeds add a pinch of asafoedita.
  10. Add switch off the stove.
  11. Finally add the curry leaves and coriander leaves.

N.B: It is also a good side dish for dosa and pongal.
